Reubens Profile picture photoshoot

Reuben is a good friend and he is also CEO of the charity Tearfund http://www.tearfund.ie and a while back he needed a profile picture for the website.
Reuben was looking for something a little different from the normal studio look and asked me to think of a location that would be suitable. He was interested in a red brick or street background. I chose a location in one of the older parts of the city, Dublin 8 or the Liberties as it has the old walls and cobbled streets.

This shoot took place in a laneway near the world famous Guinness Hopstore and the wall in the background is part of the old Guinness complex of buildings and storehouses.
We decided to shoot in the evening as it was quite a sunny week in Dublin (can happen!) and the light in the full of the day can be quite harsh, leaving stark shadows especially in peoples faces. Ask any landscape photographer and they will tell you the best light is first thing in the morning or late on in the evening.

Anyway I think it worked for Reuben! We only took about 30 minutes to do the actual shoot. We tried a number of different ‘looks’ from serious to pensive. I always try and make sure there are a bunch of different looks in a shoot so people can use the photographs later for alternative uses.
He went with this one in the end.. https://www.tearfund.ie/who_we_are/people/
And, as always I gave him quite a number of shots to keep, and I have posted some below. If you would like a corporate headshot or profile picture shot with a little bit of difference get in touch.

Anthony and Kathriona

When Anthony and Kathriona got married they had the most brilliant, unpredictable cake at their wedding! You can see it further down the photos. I also got to go to both his and her house as they lived not too far apart. I had a great day with them and their families and they were very easy to work with. I even got to meet Anthony’s dogs!

This was the first wedding I used my new Lastolite Hilite background and I think you will agree that it worked very well. I really like it as it is a good clean background for getting lovely shots of the guests. It works better than going around the tables and getting all the clutter of the plates and drinks in the photo.
People also got into the spirit of it and were lining up to get their photo taken together! As I currently give all the best photos to the Bride and Groom on a disc (full resolution and no water mark) they are free to pass these shots onto their family and friends at no extra cost.

I was assisted on the day by the very capable, Gus (AJ) Coyne, and he was a fantastic assistant as usual, even driving me around!
We went into Corkagh park to get some shots but we nearly didn’t make it with the traffic and the weather and daylight was at a premium ( it may also have had something to do with a very unique and outgoing priest who led the wedding in a very entertaining and personal way! ). We made it just in time. Thanks to Dublin City Council Parks department for granting permission to us to take the photos there (helped that I have Public liability cover!).

All in all it was a great day, I got to know Anthony and Kathriona very well and I am glad that when they got their photos off me last week they seemed to be pleased with what I captured.

Thanks guys and best wishes for the future!

Chris and Ali!

When Ali and Chris tied the knot it didn’t half rain, which, lets be honest was a shame, however that wasn’t going to put a damper on their day! We headed into Bray and got a miraculous 10 minute respite from the showers. That’s all we needed to catch some shots of the bride and groom as they walked on the stony beach. You can’t tell from the photographs but there were quite a few people around and its always a source of amusement for them to see a ‘live’ bride and groom out and about.
Someone is bound to say “is it really your wedding day?!”
The reception was in the Glenview Hotel and as with the other times I have been there, the staff were great, very organized.
We had to do the family shots indoors as it was a pure Irish summers day! While it would have been great to get into the Gardens, the Bridal suite was large and light enough to get the group shots.
I would like to say thanks to Ali and Chris for letting me be part of their day and to wish them all the best in their life together.

Wedding at Liffey Valley House Hotel

True to my word I’m blogging every Wednesday! This is a Wedding from a while back. Great couple and a lovely venue at Liffey Valley House.
I had a really good time at this wedding and I had not put up many shots from it before now even though I had used a photo from this wedding in my Web gallery but also for an advert in B Magazine. A lot of Brides want a really sunny day but my favourite light would have to be the moody overcast skies that have rain BEFORE or AFTER but not during the photo shoot! On this particular day the light was lovely and even and it didn’t matter as they were so relaxed and happy that taking pictures was a pleasure.
As you can see in some of these shots I did something I do at Weddings if time allows…I let the Bride and Groom walk on ahead so I can get those distant shots but it also maybe one of the only times a couple have together downtime on the day. I remember from our own Wedding how everyone wants to talk to you and that is amazing but can be a little over whelming!

Here are some shots of Jason and Hazels wedding. It was really quite a special day as the whole day took place under canvas by a beautiful lake with a deer park in the surrounding woods! There was a Mongolian Yurt built by Donal O’Gara. There is even a picture of me with my wife (I’m wearing a blue jumper) with Jason took of me.
Scroll down to see more pictures of this wonderful couples special day by the lake….

I took some shots of Model Mayhem girl, Bing Wang in the Trinity Capital Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. It is a super venue with great interior design that is colourful and not at all what you expect from a Hotel. I was trying out my new Bowens portable studio lights as well and I managed to take over 300 shots just on the battery pack alone. To see more pictures from today, just scroll down. Bing was a fantastic model and really relaxed with all her poses. You can see her profile on Model Mayhem here: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1422480
